{"id":2863,"date":"2010-02-12T09:14:38","date_gmt":"2010-02-12T17:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/simonburrow.com\/\/?p=2863"},"modified":"2010-02-13T12:37:44","modified_gmt":"2010-02-13T20:37:44","slug":"security-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simonburrow.com\/?p=2863","title":{"rendered":"Security Issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An apology is in order.\u00a0 Earlier this week Swcamborne was hacked and a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phishing\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>phishing<\/strong><\/a> page was illegally inserted into the front of my blog.\u00a0 I was finally able to get it removed by the hosting company Bluehost and all is well again now except for my and your confidence.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all of the readers who emailed to alert me.\u00a0 I did lose a few posts from the blog including the brilliant NIMBY post which I will try to recreate.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that there is no jurisdiction actively pursuing and prosecuting hackers and phishers.\u00a0 The phishing site replicated a Bluehost page yet Pedro,the rep I spoke to, said &#8220;We are not part of the problem.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"tt-flickr tt-flickr-Small\" title=\"image\" href=\"http:\/\/simonburrow.com\/\/photos\/photo\/4351747558\/image.html\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4060\/4351747558_4c38d2f663_m.jpg?resize=240%2C236\" alt=\"image\" width=\"240\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have hired a company to make my sites less vulnerable.\u00a0 But ultimately it is up to all of us as users to be careful to never enter our confidential data without confirming who is asking for it.\u00a0 I urge you to read the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phishing\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>phishing definition on wikipedia<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 As citizens we also need to urge politicians to get rules in place that better define virtual property and then enforce property rights law against violators.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be doing more posts on this issue now that it has gotten my attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An apology is in order.\u00a0 Earlier this week Swcamborne was hacked and a phishing page was illegally inserted into the front of my blog.\u00a0 I was finally able to get it removed by the hosting company Bluehost and all is well again now except for my and your confidence.
