Bud Lite

“So… I’m fighting a war for survival and you are arguing about Bud Lite.”

Ukrainian President Zelensky

Not a bad effort. I need to learn how to make the typing bolder.

Action Figures

Putin is a Serial Killer

We had fun with this President Zelensky Action Figure last week in Santa Fe. Plan on a few more Zelensky photos in the next week. My coconspirator on this project was Brian S.

Just to be clear I am a big fan of Zelensky. I have also been a proponent of sending a lot more weapons, including jets, a lot sooner. So think of these photos as fanboy photos.

We had fun getting him in some interesting places. It would be great to put the captions/maxims on every photo. But it’s right at the limit of my skill set and I haven’t practiced enough so it is time consuming. We shall see. I was successful getting the captions on the photos. Life is good.

Russia/Ukraine

I belong to Postcrossing and many of the active members are from Russia and Ukraine. It has been an interesting year for them and for the administrators of the group. I recently received two cards that tell stories that we don’t read in our media.

This card is from Moscow it says in part: “And you should know that peaceful people live in Russia, but the government has gone crazy.”

This one is from Crimea. It has Russian stamps but the Postcrossing code (the UA in the top left) is from the Ukraine.

To complete the postcard theme here are images of the fronts of the cards:

Fake News?

The news is full of stories of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the horrible civilian toll. But the statistics tell a different story. In two weeks of fighting the Washington Post reports that 752 civilians have been killed. That doesn’t sound like a murderous killing machine indiscriminately bombing civilians. But we have a narrative that has to demonize the enemy.

Yes, Putin has made a terrible mistake attacking Ukraine and it is killing lots of people. But it appears to me from the numbers that he has ordered his generals not to indiscriminately kill civilians. Maybe this could be his way out?

How to Win a War

One of the mistakes that George Bush the Younger made after 9/11 was that he didn’t ask the people to sacrifice to destroy the Taliban and Osama Ben Ladin. No war bonds, no draft, tax increase and subsequently no support for finishing the war.

Now we are in a war against Russian aggression and Senator Mark Kelly among others has introduced legislation to waive the Federal gasoline tax for six months. This is exactly the wrong action. Kelly and others are misreading the American peoples willingness to sacrifice and sending the wrong signal to Putin. I propose instead that we immediately increase the tax on gasoline by $1.00. The proceeds can go to refugee relief and building the military.

The slogan could be “Drive Less for Democracy.”

The Ukraine’s heroic fight has shown us is that you are much stronger if you are willing to make joint sacrifices and don’t even think about giving up.
