Mexico

I’m Retired. Go Around Me.

It’s the tortoise life for me! 1.. If walking is good for your health, the postman would be immortal. 2.. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, but is still fat. 3.. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years, but 4.. A tortoise doesn’t run and does mostly nothing, yet it lives for 150 years. And you tell me to exercise?? I don’t think so. I’m retired. Go around me.

“The surest fertilizer of a movement is the blood of martyrs.”  Bernard DeVoto The Year of Decision 1846 This a great book about the Polk administration.  The war with Mexico, the Donner party, the treaty with Great Britain that resolved the Oregon Territories border and much more all happened in 1846.  The book was published in 1940 so the writing is dated but captivating.  Well worth reading.

Mexico is so safe that  the bus drivers collect fares, make change and have buckets  of money on display.  The service at the  hotels and restaurants is great  and the beaches are world  class!  Life (in Mexico) is Good. Simon Mexico Tourism Bahia de Los Angeles (my new favorite spot in Baja)

Whale Sharks

Last week Howard R. and I went to Bahia de los Angeles for a diving adventure and we had one.  The drive down was amazing.  It has rained in the cactus forest and even the Boojem trees are green. The town isn’t much but the people are wonderful the Hotel is clean and the diving is excellent. CECUT Map Opening

The opening of the map exhibit at CECUT in Tijuana last Friday was wonderful. Carlos Garcia, Armando Orso, Simon Burrow Carlos and Armando were the prime movers in getting the exhibit approved and installed. The exhibit is the best yet.  They did blowups of three of the maps that are spectacular and the space is just wonderful.  I didn’t get many pictures because I was distracted by the delicious Baja Pinot Noir from Cetto Vineyards that they were pouring.  We concluded the evening with dinner… Read More »CECUT Map Opening

Akumal

A few hours drive south of Cancun on an excellent highway are the ruins of Tulum a Mayan site that has been very well restored. After our visit to Tulum we drove north a few miles to Akumal and had a sunset dinner at La Buena Vida. We had the best ceviche in memory sitting at a table right on the sand on beautiful Half Moon Bay. Life truly is good! My recommendation, if you are staying on the Mayan Riviera and have one day… Read More »Akumal

Tijuana Publicity

La Frontera, which I think is the largest paper in Tijuana, ran a full page story about the opening of the Changing Boundaries map exhibit at CECUT. It appears that people of Mexico are more interested in the Changing Border (Fronteras Cambiantas) than people in the USA.

All Inclusive Opportunity

We stayed at the Royal Solaris Resort in Cancun last week and it was beautiful.  To keep track of all the guests at this all-inclusive resort they give you a color coded bracelet when you check in.  The bracelets are the same ones they used to use in hospitals and they are not well suited to the festive vacation atmosphere of the resort. There is a nice opportunity for someone to start making improved resort bracelets.  You could set up a factory in Mexico.  I… Read More »All Inclusive Opportunity
