The Keys to Happiness

“The keys to happiness are high hopes and low expectations.”

This maxim has been revised many times over the 20 years or so I have been writing this blog. I like this new version and I like the idea of thinking about what makes people happy. Other versions of the key to happiness

The photo is of Jack Gold’s key collection. He was my father-in-law, he had strong opinions and lived a full life. Much of my happiness I owe to him since he was the father of Nurit.

Happy New Year

This is the second year of Covid. Some good has come of it but it has been mostly bad. It has increased anxiety in the world, exposed the news media as frauds, killed some people I liked and allowed the expansion of the nanny state.

What good has come of it. We have learned to Zoom. We learned to cook at home more. We explored Arizona more. We learned, if we were paying attention that governments are not all powerful and they can get things wrong.

I didn’t read or write more but I did play some excellent computer games, watched more sports on TV and did lots of hiking and walking.

Life is good. Yes bad things happen but so do lots of good things. Stay calm.

Photo is of Half Dome in Yosemite from the meadow in front of the Awahnee Hotel taken a few years ago BC (Before Covid)

The Key to Happiness (update)

For many years I have used the tag line:

“The key to happiness is low expectations.”

Proof back to 2006

However there was a crack in the cleverness of the saying that caused the aircraft maintenance amendment in 2009 and now, after lots of thought it is being totally revised.

The new improved tag line:

“The key to happiness is reasonable expectations.”

Throw away your old keys
