Final Exam

Tomorrow is the final exam on my June prediction that Obama will not be re-elected.  I’m still confident that Romney will win and I do think that he is the best choice for the country but I don’t expect any miracles to come out of the election.

Our lives will be effected very little.  If Romney wins taxes will go up, abortion will still be legal, law students will have to buy their own contraceptives, domestic energy production will grow and the Federal Government will expand slightly more slowly.

Pasadena City Hall

What a great country we live in where transitions of power can happen without violence.

Sunset in Pasadena

Red sky at night shepherds delight.

The view from our dining room window on Saturday evening.

And yes Sunday was a delightful day weather wise.

Camera Case Henge

This installation henge was a subset of sweaterhenge on August 26, 2012.  It was created by a splinter group of attendees led by Doug M.

Note how this exceptional photo shows the afternoon sun shining through the center of the keycase arch. (center foreground)

Sunflowers

Well really only two.

But they look great in the back yard.

You can even see them from the main street by peeking through the side yard of our back fence neighbors.

I’m an amateur farmer and a great “snapshot” photographer.

Sometimes thing come together.

Is coming on August 26 to Pasadena

A celebration of Simon’s reaching

the head of the line at the Medicare Buffet.

If you come bring a sweater to donate.

It won’t be destroyed and will end up helping a good cause.

Happy Fourth of July

America: Where moms get a day and sharks get a week.

We are in Switzerland and so are missing the famous Sierra Madre 4th of July Parade.

What a great country we live in.

BTW July 4th is no longer my birthday.

get over it.

Plastic Bag Ban Update

The Environmental Agency of the United Kingdom studied bags and decided that plastic disposable bags were the most environmentally friendly.

But it is fashionable to ban them.  So we do.

Plastic Bags are a Good Thing

A well reasoned article

But the Nanny State doesn’t just react to facts.  It is fashion and feeling based.  Why don’t we go back to gourds for cups?  Ceramics are so man made and environmentally destructive.

My solution:

I went to the local Grocery wholesaler (Smart and Final) and bought a box of a thousand “tee shirt bags” just like the ones they used to give away at the market and I’m keeping them in my car.  I’ll supply my own bags when I shop and bring in a few to give to other shoppers.

Huntington Spring

Nurit and I went to the Huntington Library twice last week.  Once to see the train exhibit and once for a special members tour. No photos were allowed in the train exhibit.

What a beautiful place.  This is the new conservatory.  It is reminiscent of Kew Gardens.

The famous former red bridge in the Japanese Garden

The rose garden is especially beautiful this year with the new rosarian

in charge and lot of activity going on.

See a few more pictures on Flickr or go over there yourself and take your own.

Mimosa Tree

This tree in our neighborhood has the same name as the orange juice and champagne drink and is beautiful when it flowers.

It is unclear which came first the drink or the tree.

They are roughly the same color.

Again this was taken just around the corner from our house near where the Passion Fruit Vine is growing.

The fruit of the passion flower looks like this before it turns purple/black and becomes edible.
