Airport seating has undergone a lot of changes over the years. There were bench seats, then individual seats, then rows of connected seats with permanent armrests to discourage lying down to sleep. Now there is a new evolution going on. Seats are being wired to allow cell phone charging. We saw this sign in Charlotte NC:
This is a great opportunity for seating companies and their suppliers. Different ideas and configurations will be tried and some will work and others won’t. Imagine the “integrated power” being used for an immersion heater or a hair dryer. What design will allow re configuring the seating arrangement at the lowest cost.
What is happening is exactly what was predicted by Matt Ridley in his terrific book The Evolution of Everything
And we can watch it happen, possibly contribute and certainly benefit from another improvement in the ease of travel. Oh and by the way it is going to be really profitable for some companies.
